EVIDENCE OF JOSEPH REDMAN REVENUE OFFICER

SWORN

My name is Joseph Redman and I am a Revenue

GR

Officer. I am officer in charge of four units whose auty

is to search vessels clearing from the port for proni-

bited exports and unmanifested cargo. The preliminary

search would normally take place at about 2 3 hours

before the departure of a River Steamer. I visited tne

"Kwong Tung" for the first time x at about 3.30 P.M.

on Saturday the 31st January, 1948. I arranged for the

complete and detailed search of the "Kwong Tung" for

7.0 P.M. on the same day. When carrying out the examina-

tion of passengers baggage my duty is to use my own

opinion as to whether they have more than their personal

belongings and at the same time to look out for prohi-

bited exports. If during the course of my inspection,

I discovered any hazardous goods being carried as

passengers' baggage I would immediately order them to be

demoved on to the whart.

I did not visit the "Kwong Tung" at 7.0 P M., but

I detailed my Senior special grade Chinese Revenue

Officer for that purpose.

My visit at 3.30 P.M. was concerned with

passengers cabins and crews quarters.

The foregoing is a true

record of the evidence I have given.

Sd. Joseph Reaman.
